Now: Top Ten Reads of 2010
On Deck: Resolutions

Because I’m super-trendy, I’m writing a Top Ten Reads of 2010 list. Mind you, not all of these books were released in 2010, I just read them in 2010. I’ve also cheated a bit. Books in the same series count as one.

Away we go:

1. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Read the previous post.

2. Hold Still by Nina LaCour
Beautifully written, and hit me in a very personal place.

3. Eyes Like Stars and Perchance to Dream by Lisa Mantchev
One word: Gorgeous. All around gorgeous, from the title and the cover to the writing and the story itself. Love triangle done right.

4. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
If you haven’t read this already, I’m not sure what’s wrong with you. Hilarious and touching. I already loved John Green, and I’ve found a new favorite in David Levithan.

5. Zombies vs. Unicorns edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier
Funny in places, heart-wrenching in others, and all around brilliant. My favorite on Team Zombie was “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Alaya Dawn Johnson (runner up “Bougainvillea” by Carrie Ryan). On Team Unicorn, first place goes to “Purity Test” by Naomi Novik (runner up “The Care and Feeding of Your Baby Killer Unicorn” by Diana Peterfreund). I remain, as always, Team Unicorn.

6. White Cat by Holly Black
My favorite magic system possibly ever. It’s definitely high on my list of Magic Systems I Wish I’d Thought of First. Of course, it’s also just fantastically written.

7. The Forest of Hands and Teeth and The Dead Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan
YA post-zombie apocalypse romance. These books may as well have been written for me. Carrie Ryan is a master of the creepy, beautiful prose.

8. Demon’s Lexicon and Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan
Do I even have to say how awesome these books are? Hot brothers Alan and Nick would have been enough, but add in Jamie and (ohmygosh) Mae? Read them. Now.

9. Suite Scarlett and Scarlett Fever by Maureen Johnson
I actually read every currently released Maureen Johnson book in 2010, but these were the first I read. Also, Spencer is my true love.

10. Going Bovine by Libba Bray
Absolutely bizarre and wonderful. It’s not for everyone, but I couldn’t put it down.

Making this list has inspired one of my resolutions for the new year: keep track of the books I’m reading on Goodreads. Trying to remember every book I’ve read in the past 365 days was indescribably frustrating. I’m sure I’ve missed a few, even though I didn’t read as many books this year as I usually do.

It will also be handy because 2011 is looking insane for books. A few that I’m particularly looking forward to:

The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan (releasing 3/22)
Red Glove by Holly Black (4/5)
The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson (4/26)
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen (5/10)
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray (5/24)
Demon’s Surrender by Sarah Rees Brennan (6/14)
So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchev (9/13)
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (9/29)
The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson (October)
